To the contrary, I do blame Hollywood for "not reflecting reality," as each failure to do so represents a missed opportunity to reverse that centuries long process of racial stereotyping. If it has taken African Americans 30 years to acheive thier current degree of media representation, we'd better get started. Despite our small numbers relative to other minority groups, we have the advantage of the modern internet era, and econonomic power, so hopefully it won't take 30 years. :) I agree with your characterization of de-facto self-segregation, and would add that there's a "safety in numbers," and this sort of safety in numbers is pursued by all minority groups in America. |
