A couple of explanations for this: (1) Men in the focus groups might not have wanted to bring it up -- it's hard to admit to being emasculated, even to a supportive and empathetic group of listeners. (2) Unfortunately, it still isn't PC in academic cultural criticism to raise gender issues through the man's perspective, since part of challenging the dominant culture is to decenter the male narrative. So we usually see scholars take the safer approach of focusing on Asian female exoticization to the exclusion of other issues. The otherwise outstanding documentary "Slaying the Dragon" took a similar flawed approach. I'm not saying that's right, but that's why AMs are basically in an insurgent position in the movement for empowerment. This site is here because the tools we need aren't readily available -- we need to take the tools that exist and build something greater.
