Re: On ''The Asian Female Mystique'' (Score: 1) by sylphhead on Monday, February 05 @ 05:38:10 EST (User Info | Send a Message) | I'm sure that many of the lefties here would be quick to scream "gay bashing!" if one criticized homosexuality--especially if one thought it could be eliminated with the right social pressures as seems to be the dominant POV here regarding "asiaphilia."
Damn, does Free Republic and WorldNetDaily have some quota of monstrous illogic they must heap at the rest of us by constantly swarming us with their thick-headed wards? To make this analogy, one would first have to assume that 'asiaphilia' is a genuine biological preference. Since the original article was postulating that it was in fact a conscious calculation on the part of some people (who see Asian women as 'safe' choices, etc.), you're assuming your own conclusion here. First you have to prove that this genuine preference exists. Granted, your last two sentences develop this line of reasoning, but this analogy that comes before completely does not work. I assume making the obligatory 'I'm a politically incorrect homophobe poor me' pity party comes at the cost of making sense.
I actually agree with you on one thing: the colonial argument as is sounds like it's stretching it. I can see that colonial mindsets could potentially have started a certain perception of Asia, that perception took on a life of its own, and now the effects of it linger long after the drunken single creeps of today have forgotten about colonialism. The article should have been a bit more clear on that. |
