ask some of your sensible, rational and less petty friends what it was like for them to grow up

you had a feeling of being threatened and were not comfortable being in a foreign environment... how often do you feel that way? Once a year?? 4-5 times in your life???

your friends will say you had it easy and they would attribute it to white privilege

affirmative action gets whites into colleges as much as it turns them away

you're such a sensitive compassionate and superior white male victim

hahahaha

I doubt you have ever felt physically threatened in your life. Don't compare some insults to violent hostility that minorities face. The two simply do not stack up against each other.

I must interject....

I agree with you in that verbal abuse does not warrant murder. However, how can you compare a minority's experience with yours? You visited a few other countries: we (minorities) are not visiting the US, this is our home and we are citizens of this country. We face sterotypes and prejudices everyday--you encounter them when you "travel." You state that you travel to many "Asian [countries]" and you "encounter people who do not like [you]." You go further by saying if "immigrants lack a basic philosophy of violence, they have no business being here." My friend, I am empathetic of your ignorance.

By definition, an immigrant is "a person who leaves one country to settle in another." I assume you are not familiar with the the Hmong and I assume you are not familiar with how they came to be in the great US of A.

The Hmong fought alongside the CIA (that's right, the good 'ol white boys club of the USA) during the Vietnam War. After the war, when communists took over their country, the Hmong emigrated to the US . The US did not help the Hmong people out of the kindness of their heart, but had to help them when "our" side lost . The Hmong had two choices, 1) stay in their country and be persecuted or exterminated or 2) emigrate to the US to start a new life.

Killing people: WRONG.

Speaking before knowing: also WRONG.

"I travel to alot of countries, including Asian ones. I encounter people who do not like me becuase I am white, sometimes they shout insults at me in their language (thinking I can't understand them, when I can). Does that mean I should pull out a weapon and start shooting people?"

But guns are banned in most Asian countries and so it's doubtful that you would have ever felt your LIFE so immediately threatened, as Vang did. When your LIFE is on the line, that's a whole 'nother ballgame and you may revert to "survival mode" then. THAT'S the difference.

This story could just as easily have ended up a "non-story" about a Hmong man found shot dead in the woods - had he played "civilly" and cowered down to 8 White hunters screaming racial slurs and firing shots at him...the dead don't talk and this story woulda died with him.

"(And just for some background, I am part Irish, my ancestors a few generations ago came to New York City and experienced lots of prejudice from - but none of us would justify violence in this type of situation, it doesn't accomplish anything)."

Ever heard of the Irish gangs and the Irish mafia ? Yes, the Irish have justified violence because of the racist treatment they received.

"My own personal background - I'm a white person (obviously) that has grown to dislike most of the 'American' culture that is associated with 'being white'. Most of my friends are not white becuase I have found them more sensible, rational, and less petty than the white people I have met. However, at the same time, I do not believe in this "white privilege" non-sense, in the face of so many things in society that exist to blatantly attack white people - such as affirmative action."

Yeah, those stupid African Americans, trying to get a stupid education for themselves. If racism didn't exist in the first place, there would have been no need for affirmative action.
