Re: I'm Brown, On the Metro, and Messing With Your Head (Score: 1) by vera1 on Monday, August 29 @ 18:57:05 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) http://www.phrasebase.com/forum/read.php?TID=7959 | I'm replying to my own comment, yeah I'm a moron.
Anyway, I thought maybe I should be more clear about my statement "reality check". By that I mean, that man's situation surely reminded him that he was not white. His situation really truely sucks and I feel for him. I'm brown too (a black american mixed with white and Indian), but I'm a female and fairly pleasant looking so I don't look like a threat. I couldn't imagine that pain. Well, I can when I think about getting lost in "Hickville Let's Kill Us A Nigger" USA, in general I'm "safe".
I do know though, how bad I feel when I see some Asain/Indians avoid other brown skinned people consciously to keep what they think is their group of friends. 9/11 has reminded many people, that what they start to believe in life is often just a perception. Reality checks are good at keeping people grounded and remembering certain things.
I wonder if it will also help open some eyes and realize that there are other good people in this world and country who happen to be brown and would love to be a productive member of society if not for being shunned. Think about it. |
