Re: Asians at UC Berkeley (Score: 1) by diminix on Sunday, August 21 @ 01:11:19 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) | Alumni preferences are not inherently racially based. Money from wealthy donors actually provides schools with the resources to give scholarships to poor students.
If the purpose of affirmative action was to "narrow socio-economic and education disparities," it would be based on socio-economic status and not race. That is, poor people of all colors would receive some type of benefit. However, this does not occur because underrepresented minority groups would be squeezed out by poor whites and Asians, and the Democrats would not reach their racial quotas. Evidence is here: http://www.lagriffedulion.f2s.com/testing.htm Whites in poverty outperform blacks in the highest income bracket.
Professor Richard Sander recently published a study saying blacks are getting into schools that they are underqualified for, fail out disproportionately, and as a result, there are less black lawyers. They would be better off going to lower ranked schools where they would be more competitive with the student body. |
