Re: Asian Americans and Affirmative Action (Score: 1)

I loathe being the resident pessimist and my hope is always for being sociatal outcome, but I must project tragic social consequences as a result of continued racial conflict in the US.

Affirmative Action is only a small part of America must in order to close the racial divide in this country. Affirmative Action does not go out and grab disenfranchised black people. It does not create jobs. It does not feed children. It does not pay mortgages. It does not stop police brutality. It does not create political power. The only thing that Affirmative Action programs accomplishes is to allow under-representated minority students who apply to colleges and universities to be admitted at a meager higher percentage using their race as only one plus factor.

That's it. That's all it does. It does not cure racism. It merely allows institutions of higher learning to bring about a critical mass of ethnically diverse students.

And, what criticism do we hear from white and Asian politicians, and students and their parents: RACIAL PREFERENCES, REVERSE DISCRIMMINATION, UNFAIR TREATMENT.

It is not surprising that a country born of revolution and racial conflict produce citizens who engage in conduct and argumentation that proliferates and encourages racial conflict and argumentation?

I say no, it is not surprising.

Opponents of Affirmation Action constantly blame blacks for getting special treatment over their white and Asian-American counterparts. I'm not surprised.

Two of the most economically successful race groups accuse the most economically disadvantaged race group of depriving them of their equal rights under the law. I'm not surprised.

Honestly, I do not see any end to racial conflict in this country. I'm terribly agonized that the white man has such a loyal agent to help do his bidding for him.

Asians were historically denied the same opportunities as whites solely due to their race as well. They went to the same segregated schools, used the same colored restrooms, and faced the same housing and employment discrimination as blacks.

Regarding slavery, after emancipation, slaveships were rerouted from Africa to Asia to bring indentured servants.

Moreover, two-thirds of the blacks at Harvard aren't even descended from slaves--they're African or Carribbean immigrants.
