Re: Asians at UC Berkeley (Score: 1) by ric on Thursday, August 11 @ 15:45:11 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) http://www.xanga.com/ric2 | Well as someone who is out of school, let me teach something about REAL world there school boy.
1. CAL is controlled by growing chinese community in SF, so thus having a strong political clout in regards to demographics of their student body.
2. Ever school does this kind of shite, so no need to make a big deal out of how CAL practices in regards to admission process.
I just want to point out that AA community is still only 4 % total US. So going to education establishment such as CAL is not going to deter or make black or even white people the minority figure.
Also whats the problem here? Having more AAs at CAL? COME ON
When last time you read about how whites ***** about having too many white students being admitted to Harvard or some ivy league school? GIVE ME A BREAK
If anything the issue is growing number of foregin students in Ph.D programs in which america is losing out due to brain drain of this country.
How hell does having more ASIANS= increase in more stereotypes?
It only means that other races/cultures have to learn more about asian culture/AA id, which IMO makes non asians more educated about small % minority that doesn't have same media power and attention like whites, blacks, or even hispanic community
Lastly, CAL is home of biggest bunch of apologetic, apathetic- whitewashed asians I have ever met. Not to mention the plentiful of AM who kiss WM ass and AFs who kiss WM C*** doesn't help either.
Love how that uber- coffee shop intelluect of CAL's UG education is showing here ! LOL |

Re: Asians at UC Berkeley (Score: 1) by GeoffDB on Wednesday, August 10 @ 22:31:15 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) | When I examined the results of the last LA Mayor's race, I saw that the white former Mayor James Hahn received a higher percentage of support amongst Asian-Americans voters than amongst white voters.
When I look at the political affiliation of Asian-American voters I see a greater percentage of them going Republican/GOP rather than Democratic.
When I read about Affirmative Action programs on this site and other websites, I find that a higher percentage of Asian-American voters oppose Affirmative Action in higher education than support it.
As I observe race relations in the US between white and Asian people, and members of minority groups, I am very concerned about socio-economic and educational disparaties.
If it were not for Sandra Day O'Connor voting in favor of the 2003 Michigan Affirmative Action decision, the disparaties would be growing even wider.
If this country is to vibrant and the doors of prosperity are to be open to all Americans, Affirmative Action will not only need to remain in place, it must be embrace. No one gets irate when privileged students and children of wealthy donors are admitted into universities. However, the wheels fall of the buggy when universities and Democrats plead for affirmative action in order to narrow socio-economic and education disparaties. I find this appalling. I have yet to read a study or uncover credible, objective evidence that students admitted to colleges as a result of Affirmative Action programs are less successful in their careers than their white and Asian counterparts.
If you want to criticize affirmative action programs and characterize them as "race preference quotas" then look at the people who are doing all the criticizing. Conservatives, like liberals, are not necessarily known for their objectivity. |
