"most E/S Asians actually are a part of the rich "oppressor class,""

What planet are you living on? East Asians being part of the oppressor class??? Even you can't say that one with a straight face. Come on now.

By the way, the reason us Asians band together is because other Americans treat us the same. We have similar experiences as Asians living in America. We have faced similar stereotypes, and overcome similar obstacles. Not because we are trying to "hide our material successes".

I know you are going to respond to this because you are one of those people that has to have the last word. However, I will no longer be responding to your posts, because I have much much much better things to do.

Later,
Your Oppressor

"See also for example the rapid rise in income of the Vietnamese in spite of coming here as poor refugees "

This is a really basic view of the Vietnamese immigration to the United States.

You have to understand that there have been many refugee waves of immigration. It was the first wave of Vietnamese that have brought over many successful and socially mobile individuals because they worked in the South Vietnamese government, which the US backed up, and had the most contact with Western influence because of the US backing. Other waves, for example the boat people, came in much larger numbers and a significant amount, if i am correct about half, died in transit.

Also, remember that many social assistance programs were initiated for Vietnamese refugees precisely because war ravaged their homeland. I hate to be the downer for Vietnamese American 'success', but many of the 1st and older 1.5 generation experiences severe trauma of war, during the boat experience, and acculturation/assimilation. Not to mention intercultural/intergenerational conflicts between the youth and the elderly.

If you're gonna throw out some stats, try to back them up in context or else a lot of important information will be omitted.
