Re: Forgotten Racism (Score: 1) by knifeflower on Friday, January 12 @ 15:13:06 EST (User Info | Send a Message) | this is very unfair to the rest of the asian women out there. any woman with an iota's worth of pride finds no comfort in being persued by men simply for their race. all that does is tell the woman that she is worth nothing more than just her genetic make-up and the cultural connotations that go with it, and that her personality, accomplishments, and everything else that goes into being an individual is seen as unnecessary 'baggage'.
i'm also increasingly frustrated by the male hatred towards asian women. while its true that the overwhelming majority of interracial couples are white males with asian females, in my experience most of my asian girl friends prefer asian guys. and the few that are with white guys are NOT going for the geeky, loser, i cant get anyone else so i'll settle for an asian girl types either. if they are with a caucasian male, it is usually due to:
1. there arent that many asians (at least where i live) to begin with, so the dating pool's selection of asians is already limited
2. white males will usually make a move on a girl sooner than an asian male will. (this is a generalization!! i know that there are very out-going asian guys out there, i'm friends with several. but i'm talking about the majority who will often put more time/thought into whether a relationship with a girl is worth pursuing)
3. there's actually more pressure on asian girls to 'give everyone a fair chance'. so a girl dating an asian guy will be seen as being very traditional and almost snobbish, whereas dating a white guy is seen as being open-minded and accepting regardless of the actual person she's with. its not fair, but its the truth.
as an asian girl, i'm personally more attracted to asian males than i am to whites/black/latinos/etc. but that doesnt mean i go for asian males exclusively either. i feel offened by people openly declaring that all asian girls who date outside of their race are ''sell-outs'', whores, or needy, whiny, hypocrites who seek security and find pleasure in being seen as sex icons to white males. it is NOT all about the race to girls. my first boyfriend was white, but that was even before i was aware of the asian fetish that some white guys had. i wasnt attracted to him because he was white, and he rarely if ever mentioned my being asian. my boyfriend is chinese and i really love him, and that wouldnt change if he where black or hispanic or white. the fact that we're both chinese makes it so that we have more in common, but its unfair to say that asians girls with asian guys are being 'loyal' where as asians girls going for nonasian guys are selling out. sure there are some who are unfairly only attracted to white males, but dont stereotype all females because of that. |
