Re: A Korean-American Journey (Score: 1) by properspeaks (onetwo@three.com) on Saturday, April 30 @ 12:33:36 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) http://www.asiavists.org | You may feel that you aren't 'bashing' them, but you are certainly blaming them.
Asian women are not responsible for Orientalist thought, nor are other women of color for the unfortunate colonial mindstate plaguing their respective communities.
I contend Amy Tan's literature and other literature that does not always properly represent Asians and Asian Americans, and as much as I want to jump on board and attack at a surface level, I've come to understanding that it is a product of larger systems and issues -- white privilege, patriarchy, and internal oppression.
In terms of possible solutions, as I have stated before, people should greatly consider counter-productions of all sorts. Rather than playing the blame game, get into producing your own literature, shows, videos, etc. Encourage other like-minded people to do so as well.
Open your mind to better options. |
