If the author had said that his tormentors had called him a "chink" or other racist epithets, I would wholeheartedly agree that his unfortunate experience is due to his ethnicity. However, he has no definite proof as to the reasons behind the actions. Do I know for sure whether or not his peers and teacher were being racist? No, and from what I can tell, neither does he. Why must everything be about racism and prejudice? You must think that because you are an Asian male, bad things only happen to you and as a female, nothing bad happens to you. If that is your belief, then you are pitifully ignorant about Asian American issues. In terms of race, the female sex is not sacred. We have to face just as many prejudices as men. I've been called "chink", "gook", and "jap" more than once in my life. Those incidents, I can definitely put down to racism since the aggressors used plain racist language.
Why do you guys adamantly insist on turning this into a racist incident? |
