Re: Adopting a New Way of Life (Score: 1) by LuckyG on Friday, February 18 @ 15:27:23 EST (User Info | Send a Message) | Yes, many white people are that ignorant. But the people described in this article weren't doing that. The adoptive parents were getting their children involved heavily with the Asian-American community, attending church and building strong relationships with Asian American families. That's the huge difference between today and yesterday.
Look, I'm not an apologist for the ignorant white folks who think they can raise an Asian child as white. Those idiots should never be allowed to adopt a non-white/mixed-race child.
Again, in a perfect world all Chinese orphans should find loving homes in China. |

No ...No....No....
___>> Well, actually, some do. I do. I read these sites because I have heard the voices of many Korean adoptees who were raised as white, only to enter the world with having to contend with an identity crisis. I am trying to listen and learn. It will never be perfect, we are white and she will be Chinese, I understand that, but we will have her integrated into the Asian community to the best we can. I agree that celebrating festivals is an improvement, but I think we (white parents) need to go beyond that.
I hope she doesn't meet Asians who will tell her that she would have been better off dead. |
