Re: Adopting a New Way of Life (Score: 1) by LuckyG on Friday, February 18 @ 11:26:39 EST (User Info | Send a Message) | "Freedom of what?" You're kidding right? I'm sure the members of Falun Gong who have been imprisoned or worse would gladly have your freedoms. Then again, there a lot of people who ran afoul of the People's Army for treacherous thoughts would be happy to trade places with you.
As for the ignorance of white people, isn't this article about white people trying to overcome their ignorance and provide a Chinese identity for their children?
I was pretty clear that I thought transracial adoptions of old were pretty crappy. Have you ever seen "Rabbit Proof Fence"? Great movie about the horrors of Australia's official goal of breeding out the aboriginies. This same crap happened in North America to Native Americans. So please don't put words in my mouth.
Why should I explain the "in thing" of adopting Chinese babies? It's pretty damn obvious.
As for the adoption of Latino, Native American and African-American and biracial children, there have been several articles addressing the growth in recent years. Similarly, adoption of children from former Soviet countries like Russia and Romania has also been written about extensively.
Frankly, given the number of available non-white and mixed-race children in American foster care, going to China or Europe seems a little extreme.
I think I'd like to hear from someone who is a transracial adoptee. It's easy for us who have not been in the situation to throw around our thoughts. |
