Re: Propaganda vs. Real Life in America vs. Terrible Reasoning (Score: 1) by pineappleheadindc on Saturday, July 31 @ 19:15:21 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) | You assertion that there is no mental illness in Asia is wholly wrong. You are, by extension, asserting that there are no individuals suffering from any of the disorders contained in the DSM-IV.
There are a whole lot of other conditions than ADD or ADHD which you cite. Are you saying that there are no indivduals in Asia with:
-- Obssessive compulsive disorder
-- Nonorganic psychoses.
-- Schizophrenia
-- Anorexia or bulimia
-- Dementia
Of course there are people in Asia, of the over 1 billion individuals, with the conditions above.
Do you even know what you're talking about?

Re: Propaganda vs. Real Life in America vs. Terrible Reasoning (Score: 1) by jpma on Monday, August 02 @ 15:00:34 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) | it must be remembered that china also practices holistic medicine, which brings to mind the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine. "chinese medicine" as western medicine would call it, acupunture, accupessure, herbal remedies etc.
certain mental afflictions can be defined in terms of imbalance of either yin or yang energies. this is quote from a "barefoot doctor" from china with whom i had the opportunity to spend time with.
however, to deny that certain serious mental affliction exists within a society is very dangerous. traditionally asian cultures are very concerned about reputation and honor. to have a son or family suffering from severe mental imbalance can be very embarassing.
but let's be practical and more humanistic. the mind is a very delicate thing. anyone can one day find himself in mental state that he would never think would "happen to him". those more unfortuanate are those born with deep mental afflictions and not to mention those who are suffering from some life altering trauma. it is important that if we have the science which allows our doctors to discover and define certian diseases earlier it is important we let them do their jobs.
i know a master of accupressure who has corrected ailments with just one session. from walking hunched over to "back to normal". from overwhelming stress to calm relaxed tranquiltiy and realization, chi revitlaized and balanced. if the concept of "chi" was in doubt, i would say then u don't know the river of life which flows through u. |
