Native Taiwanese???? (Score: 1)

What does that mean? Do you know the History of Taiwan from its days a finishing outlet to it being Formosa, form Koxinga, to Shih Long, to Being Part of Fukian, From it Being taken By Japan, From It being taken Back By China, from it being the hideaway of a Corrupt KMT, From Its Martial Law Days, To its Governments Triad Connections, to its "Democratic"Elections. Do you know that the term Taiwanese might be a slap in the face of the natives who were driven to near extinction by the Chinese immigrants from Ming Time to KMT time(ie the Americans did to the Native Americans). Do you know that Taiwan is an Island not a country. The official title is "Republic of China", meaning you are Chinese not Taiwanese. Native Taiwanese are dark skin people. Too bad most are gone now. Understanding your own history will be first step in understanding Taiwan the island, the people, and the Country.
Second, do you know that Chinese Culture has been heavily influenced by other great thinkers other than Confucius and Budha. Do you know the dicthomy of Confucius in the public and in relationships while Budhism is a personal matter. Ever heard of Shang Yang the Legalist. Many of the shitty ways the Family Hierarchy in China is organized and live is due to Legalism that was infused with Confucianism during Han Times and Radicalized during Sung and MIng Times. Do you understand the Hard ship people in Taiwan have gone threw because most are taught to hate China ever since they were a kid. A kind of self-hate and indentity problem. Similiar to what Jap went through at the turn of the century when it turned its back on Confucianism and adopted strictly militarist and extreme Shinto. Taiwan people may not even know what is proper "Taiwanese" culture, maybe because there never was one. Taiwan like Japan in the turn of the 20th century and probably now is going an identity crisis.

How well do you know Confucianism and Budhism anyways. OR what Confucist Calls "decorum." Maybe you don't understand decorum so you feel left out.

My personal experience is that my grandparents on both sides were from China. One side from the Mainland, the other from Hainan Island. My parents and I grew up in Vietnam and Immigrated to America. I loved Chinese Culture growing up watching HK tv and cinema as well as being in the San Francisco Chinatown community. As a college student I went to study in China (all over) with "asian-americans" and other americans. I loved it. I never felt out of place. I understood decorum and the peoples plite. Many Chinsese were surprised I knew so much about their (or should I say) my culture and history. Was there things I like in China, very much. Were there things I hated, yes. But I felt more at Home in China then I ever did anywhere else (maybe except Chinatown in SF). Maybe your problem is that you have not done your homework on Taiwan. That is my guess. Try to read up on Taiwan's past, its culture, and its present social political climate, as well as art and entertainment. I mean really put time and energy in this, meaning years of reading and researching. Maybe next time you go back yo will feel better about that island. Because you will finally truely understand it instead of judging it out of ignorance.
