Re: Why 'Joy Luck' Brings Me Misery (Score: 1) by Bizarre_Female on Monday, April 26 @ 21:20:04 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) | | I don't have a problem with movies that tell the good and the bad..but the point is that bc this is the *only* big asian american movie, a lot of nonasians are going to accept this movie/book as the asian american experience...and the sad thing is that most people are uneducated so they are going to base their prejudices on the media |

I agree with Bizzare_Female re JLC (Score: 1) by ac2004 on Monday, April 26 @ 21:56:24 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) | I agree with B_Fem ... a lot of people are uneducated and/or idiotic and are going to take what they see in either the movie or the book as being representative of Asians and Asian Americans. (Looking at the people hanging out in sites like this provides plenty of examples of stupidity.)
Unless you've (dkaykes that is) been living in a cave for several years (or you're not who you say you are), you can't dismiss the mountains of evidence compiled by MM.com, Angry Asian Man, MANAA, Asian Media Watchdog, etc., that shows how Whites (and sell-out or idiotic Asians/Asian-Ams) buy into a lot of negative stereotypes.
Also, unless one is too stupid to read or is really just a troll yanking our chains, one can't dismiss the brilliant points being made by Julia regarding Amy Tan's anti-Asian self-hate that borders on (or crosses over into) mental illness. |
