Re: Sister, Can You Lend an Ear? (Score: 1) by Red on Sunday, April 18 @ 17:20:45 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) | | I have to go with Chouenli on this one. I read and agreed with most of Julia Oh's article, nodding my head in assent to the majority of her comments. But in any legit movement for rights we have to monitor ourselves and make certain we do not become what we fight. If Julia Oh does infact make a CONCIOUS decision to date AM, then she is a cold fish indeed. When people like Chouenli state that they do not notice race when they choose a partner well, that is being a little disingenuous. But really there is no difference Julia, in expecting Asian women to date only within their race and a conservative family expecting that we MUST marry cousin Amir in the village, PUT ASIDE your own hopes for a chosen mate FOR THE GOOD OF THE FAMILY/TRIBE/WHATEVER and suck it up, better luck in your next existance. Sorry life is too damn short for that. As for myself, there is nothing sexier than a handsome, virile Southeast Asian male, but to each their own. I will contribute much to the cause, but we have every right to reserve something for ourselves, and that may be one's preference for a husband or wife. Many males of all ethnicities (and this does not at all discount that white men ARE holding the cards) are patriarchal swine, (yes I said it, shore up your shit then!) but if you look around, there are some brilliant, empathetic, fuzzy, fun men to choose from, yes there are. Stay emotionally healthy and they are easier to find. Become bitter (not saying Julia is, but you cannot grab a human being's rights to choose their own lifelong partner) and twisted and you will start to grow blind. You will become more like what you are combating...you will lose yoiur credibility as an activist. |

ac2004,
Surprise surprise. Just goes to show how stupid a lot of these creeps really are. The same type lurk around at clubs where lots of singe AF co-eds hang out. Of course these losers are ubiquitous at AA cultural events and try to pass themselves off as easy gong and wanting to be involved with AA issues.
AFs don't need to fall for this crap but I guess more and more women are really stupid afterall. Heck, they'll forgive some white guy's offenses but condemn an AM for saying anything that they don't agree with and are deaf when you point out to them how hypocritical they are acting when they get together with Charlie Whiteboy while complaining about how racist this society is. I'm sick of the hypocrisy of AF sell-outs. |
