Re: The Problem Runs Deeper Than Details (Score: 1) by el1263 on Monday, April 19 @ 20:51:38 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) | Minotaar,
The difference in usage was to make, in a subtle way, one of the points that I try to make in the article: that America considers discrimination against Asian Americans acceptable. Ch-nk is "acceptable," and therefore I use "Chink," whereas N--ger is unacceptable, and therefore I use "N--ger."
I can see how I may have been trying to be too clever.
I've used this rhetorical "device" before in other writing:In the pantheon of racial slurs, there's a difference between "N--ger," "K-ke," and "Chink." In 21st century America, the first two are off-limits, but "Chink" is still fair game.
Hope that helps clear it up. |
